Hypnotising the Judge.
From America comes the story of a Judge who discharged a prisoner after he had been convicted by a jury. The •IritelUgenlt American public have conic to the conclusion that the prisoner hypnotised the Judge and willed him to reverse the decision of the jury. As a matter of fact, it is very easy to hypnotise an American Judge. The procedure Is as follows :—lf you have a case pending you go and see the Judge, or send a trusted friend to b’hn. After discussing the crops as a delicate preliminary you mention casually the case in which you are interested, and the Judge no
sures you, with loans in his eyes. tlncr, though the American Eagle court'' to scream, justice shall be done. You shake 'him heartily by the hand, and in a voice husky With emotion say, “ See here. Judge, you must come across a lot of casee descrying of charity in the course of your duties, and I should very much Tikey'MS- to distribute a thousand dollars for*' JEe.” “My friend,” replies the Judge, “you are right, b'gosh. But it's a darned funny thing that your opponent gave me just , the amount for liic poor only an hour ago. I think, though, that I could easily find deserving cases for even another 11000 dollars.” You get 'an assurance that no more money will he accepted for distribution until your case is concluded, pay over 2000 dollars, and, oh ! justice is hypnotised. A writer says “ the ears should be so placed as not to be higher than the eyebrow or lower than the tip of the nose.” People who are dressing for a party should not forget this. Charles Dickens the younger is seriously sick with acute dyspepsia and weakness of the heart. The Berlin university has published a set of regulations for the admission of women to its lectures.
