Dunedin Gossip.
The rapid approach of the Xmas holidays has imparted an extra fillip to business generally and on all sides one hears tradespeople saying “ trade is brisk.” The unemployed problem seems to be solved for the present at anyrate,. as far as can bo judged by appearances,, and as the Opposition journals do not seem to be able to hatch a grievance out of it. I suppose it does not exist.
We are sorely perplexed what to do. and how to do. The Governor signified his intention of visiting Dunedin if, he could obtain vice-regal apartments or residence or whatever His Excellency requires, and so far as I can learn we have not gob sufficient or suitable accommodation to board and lodge a governor in proper style. Several residences have been suggested but are objected to because this one has insufficient accommodation for the viceregal servants, another has no stabling, for the horses and the next one has. only one bathroom or some such unsurmountable inconvenience, so that society is afraid, that we shall be denied the anxiously-awaited vice-regal visits To avert such a calamity how would it do for him to camp on the Forbury racecourse ? I make no charge for bbo suggestion 1
