Asbestos in tub Manufacture of Boots. —A new invention consists of a preparation of asbestos wool compressed into thin sheds by hydraulic -pressure These sheets are then waterproofed on one side by a special sontion, and portions insetted into the boots as middle soles. Asbestos being a non-con-ductor of beat, its interpolation into the fabric of boots and shoes in conjunction with a waterproof material has the effect of counteracting the influences of heat, cold, and moisture. Asbestos-lined boots cannot creak in wear, and are, besides, many times more flexible than bcots made in the ordinary manner. Lastly, asbestos being a nonconductor of electricity, persons wearing hoots thus made may walk over live electric wires in perfect safety. 1230 Stolen. —The Rotorua post office was broken into lust week and 1230. stolen. It appears that the burglars broke into Postmaster Diusey’s house, and bethinks drugged him while asleep, and ootained the keys of the post office safe from his trousers’ pocket. They then effected an entrance to the post office by breaking a window and made off wth the contents of the safe, which included 1230 in cash. All the contents of the safe have been recovered excepting the cash. A number of postal n ites and registered letters were found in a paddock with a roll of notes. Two men were arrested by the police on suspicion of being directly concerned in the robbery.
