Naseby Notes.

(LAKE COUNTY PRESS CORRESPONDENT). THE WEATHER, we have been experiencing lately has been good snmmer weather, but on Saturday night a change took place, when it started to blow, and before Sunday morning had changed into a fairly heavy fall of snow. THE CROPS. It is* a pity that the good weather could not have continued until the harvesting was completed. Most of the farmers have started to harvest, and in about a fortnight it will be pretty general all ever the district. The crops I believe,, are slightly better than last year’s, and in several cases are very good. MINING. But the weather prophet cannot please everybody. The supply of water for the miners has been pretty short of late, but this fall of snow will be the means of giving them a little more water before tho ice comes round again, I hear two steam dredges are to be put on the Manuherikia River, near Ophir, where there is supposed to be payable gold. Tho Rock and Pillar Gold Dredging Company expect to start work in a fortnight on their claim bn the Taieri River. ' The pon toons for the dredge (which was formerly on the Mathura River, near Gore), are on the ground. It is estimated that about 40 tons of stuff will be treated per hour, and the power will be supplied by a 10 horse power engine. SALES Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., held a sale at Caldwell’s Wedderburn, on Wednesday. 1500 sheep, mostly crossbred wethers, were yarded. Bidding was slow, but with the exception. of one small lot, all were sold. 26 head- of cattle were also yarded. The house lately owned by Mr T. E. M'Oarthy, S.M. and Warden has been purchased’ by tho Government for the Stock Department. The price was, I believe £250.
