SKIPPERS.

(prom our own correspondent.) January 24. Wejcorne rain fell last night. A rather serious accident happened at the dynamo-house, Left-hand Branch, Skippers, on the 14th inst., by which Mr H. B. Moore had the misfortune to get his arm badly torn and broken. Mr Moore was working at a belt which was in motion, and his arm was dragged round the pulley, causing the injuries stated. He was conveyed to the Frankton Hospital immediately, where his injuries were promptly attended to by Dr Douglas, I am glad to be able to state that he is progressing favorably towards recovery.

Influenza has been very prevalent, many of the residents having had a bad time with it. To-day the school was closed owing to to the large number of children that were laid up with it. I am sorry to state that one of our residents (Mr Michael Dwyer) has joined the silent majority. The deceased had a very severe attack of influenza, which, unfortunately, turned to acute inflammation of the lungs. The deceased went to Frank tan .Hospital on Thurcday last, and succumbed to the malady on Tuesday morning last, after a short but very painful illness. The deceased was employed at the Gallant Tip-

perary Company’s claim at Skippers. The news of his death cast a gloom over the whole district, where the deceased was a great favorite, and much sympathy was expressed for the parents in their sad trouble. The deceased was a native of Victoria, and was the eldest son of Mr Matthew Dwyer, of Prankton. Deceased had effected an insurance on hia life only a month ago.
