(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Dunedin, "Wednesday Evening. Butler was again brought before Mr Watt on Thursday. The trousers worn by him when be left the Scotia Hotel were found in the bush near where his coat was found by the Ranger. There are certain spots of blood on them near the groin. Dr Alexander gave evidence as to the character of the blood marks on the various articles of dress, which tells against prisoner. Butler intends to defend himself at the Supreme Court; but has asked a leading lawyer to watch the trial for him and raise all necessary law points. He has been committed to take his trial for stealing from Stamper's (whose house was burnt down) and for having attempted to shoot the two arresting constables. The Volunteers have returned to town after their Easter holidays. Great indignation is felt here at the charges of misconduct brought against them up North, and an investigation is demanded. The holidays have passed over, and left business as dull as ever. The session of the Educational Institute is in full swing. The annual report was adopted and Professor Black delivered his Presidential address, in which he said teachers should receive from £250 to £IOOO per annum This waa cheered by the teachers.
