"nUKE OF HAMILTON. -Sire, Young Prince of Walts: dam, Jessie, by Lord Raglan; grandam, Blossom, bred by Mr Gierke in Tasmania, and brought lohis son's farm in Southland for breeding purposes in 1862. Blossom was the dam of the well-known enrire horse Surprise, that travelled the Invercnrgill district for three years, took three second prices at the In., vercargill annual show, and then was sold to go to the Teviot and Dunstan. The Young Pkixce of Wales is the winner of the following prizes:—In 1574, Ist at the Taieri Show, and winner of the Champion Cup as best entire in the yard (then 3 years old); in 1875 and *76, Ist in Invercaraiil; 1877, Ist m Dunedin and winner of Champion prize as best horse in the yard; in 1878, Ist in Invercargill. He has never been beaten in a show ring. He is considered by competent and impartial judges to be the best entire horse in the colonies, and admirably adapted to improve the breed of draught stock, bis offspring having been large prize takers at the principal shows in the Middle Island. He began bis premium career when one year old, by winning first premium at Glasgow (open show), then first in his own class at Hamilton, and medal as best of the male kiqd, beating all ages, including the two year-olds that were first at Kelso and Glasgow. The Prince's sire is that unprecedented horse Prince of Wales, which R. Drew, Esq., bought from D. Riddel 1, Esq., at the price of £ ] 550. 11 is breed ing and premium-taking are extraordinary. Stock got by him last season took no less than 37 first prizes in Scotland, besides many first prizes in England. The Prince's dam has also been an extraordimry prizetaker, including first at the Highland Society, first at Glasgow, first at Hamilton, first at Kilbride, all showing that the Young Prince of Wales is one of the best bred sires in the kingdom. Loud Raglan won the first prize as a three-year-old colt, and the second prize, as against all ages and comers, at the Clutha. At the Agricultural Show, Toko mairiro, he won the first prize (a silver medal) as a three-year-old, against all comers; at the Agricultural Show, Taieri, he also gained the first prize as a three-year-old ; and his foals, shown at the East Taieri in 1870, took the first prize against all comers; and he himself gained the first prize the same year. In 1871 he gained the first prize Silver medal) at the Agricultural Show, Invercargill, and likewise £4O premium same place. Lord Raglan's stock is turning out remarkably well, and are already prize-takers. DUKE OF HAMILTON was bred by Mr John Hamilton, of Forest Hill, and is rising three years old. He was only exhibited on one occasion, when a two-year-old, taking the second-prize; but competent judges pronounced him to be the best entire colt ever exhibited in the district. " The Duke " is a black dapple, stands 16.A hands high, is-possessed of good temper, fine flat bone, great muscle, and has proved himself a sure foal-getter.
