TO THE JSDIIORjARROW OB3SF I.R. Sir,- —As Veil as your iu.-t week’s correspondent. I Would like i« j'nUo a few remarks on Queenstown hthiration. The letter of “ Catholic” is a; . •••-.uk-.t-it one. All will remember thru ;3isr> _.-v Moran got up an agitation ivy Carbolic schools, where as he put ri. ■ -iucaaou would be permeated by m teaching; condemning our school books/ It appears .upw that, our Kducauoa' Board made a grand mistake in taking Bishop Moran as the representative of Roman Catholic feeling. Ihe very books he condemned are used iu it ,ui..q Catholic schools, although the ChVcnfmem changed their books at great expense. And his schools are d. c:a: dto be secular, in school hours.- and not a ; . word it said perlr. eating influence of Romaic Catholicism. I rejoice, Sir, at the stand taken by our local priests and Catholic fellow citizens. Children can learn enough religion atj home and at Church. That your pondent" Catholic” is speaking correctly , can be proved in Queenstown. All the Protestants canvassed to send their children to the Roman Catholic., school were told that the teaching would be secular during school hours, and it is very honorable on the part of the priests and committee that the promise is being adhered to. This is the iStrongest argument yet brought forward in favor of purely teculsr teaching in schools, and proves beyond ail doubt that there is no need of denominntional teaching, i he Rpmao Catholics in Auckland'have taken a similar stand. As-tire great question of Denominational *i>. .Secular, instruction w ill soon be again before the , public it is well to,remember that Bishop Moran stands alone, so jar fho \V akatip is concerned,— T -.in. &, ' V,v Phoxestanx, .
