WAKATIP DISTRICT HOSPITAL.

A general meeting of subscribers to the above Institution took place in the Boardroom, Fraukton, ou Saturday afternoon, shortly after two o'clock. There was about a dozen persons present. The President (Mr Beetham), in opening the meeting, stated that a few people had been on the ground since 1 o'clock, but that had been the earliest opportunity of getting a sufficient number together to commence business. Mr Beetham then read the advertisement specifying the object of the business, namely, to consider the advisability of further amending Rules 7 and 8 of the Amended Rules. Mr Boyes and others thought it very strange that, although the Arrow subscribers had made so much noise, and been iustrumental in calling of the present meeting, yet not one was present. It was too bad of them ; for he thought, after complaining so much, they ought certainly to have made it worth their while to come over and point out the alterations they required. After some discussion, during which it was suggested that the Rules stand as they were, Mr Warren proposed—That the word " not" be inserted in the last sentence of Rule 8, which shall read :—" But any person not being an annual subscriber of £1 Is to the Hospital, and being desirous of becoming a patient, Bhall be entitled to admission on his paying £2 10s per week, provided always that the Resident Surgeon shall be of opinion that he or she is a fit person." The mover said if, as was asserted, the omission of the word " not" was the printer's error, and no fault of the Committee, this resolution was scarcely necessary; but he thought it might save quibbling hereafter if the alteration were now adopted. Mr G. M. Ross seconded the resolution, which was carried unamiously. No other business being brought up, the meeting closed with the usual vote to the Chair. Committee Meeting. Present—Messrs C. C. Boyes (chair), Beetham, Moss, Perelle, Betts, Miller, F. M' Bride, Eichardt.and Worthington. Minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. Several accounts were brought up and passed for payment. The number of patients admitted during the previous month was 5 ; discharged, 6 ; and remaining at the end of the month, 17. A letter was read from Mr H. T. Evans Secretary to the Nokomia subcommittee, reporting that, at a public meeting recently held at the Nokomai, two persons named Cameron and Morgan had refused to subscribe to the Institution, becausp, they said, they had been supplied with insufficient food while indoor patients recently. The sub committee wished to know if the statement was true. Reference was made to the record book, when the following entries were found concerning abovementioned complainants :—" Argus Cameron—Discharged July 4, 1872, and says he is perfectly satisfied with the attention he has received. Paid £3." "W. Morgan—discharged, cured, April 3, 1872. Cannot find any complaint, and has paid £ I 10s on leaving, and will pay the rest as soon as possible." (The latter was in the Hospital six weeks.) The Secretary was ordered to write to Mr Evans, explaining the circumstances under which the patients left, and giving extracts from the record book. The old subject of water supply for the Hospital was again brought on the board. As summer was approaching it was thought that something should be done to obtain a£constant supply. The opinion of some members was that it could be procured for £SO or *6O, by means of a force-pump at the Falls, and that probably the Presby'terian Committee would share the expense, in consideration of the Manse obtaining supply from the same source. Others seem to think that a good supply could be obtained by pipes and jjraius from a lake near Mr Dwyer's •arm. Ultimately, It was proposed by Mr Miller, seconded by Mr Beetham, and carried—That a sub-committee consisting of Messrs Boyes, M'Bride, and Beetham be appointed to investigate the subject, and °"ng up a report at next meeting. *iA VOte of thanks t0 the Chair closed gfl business.
