BUILDING IMPROVEMENTS IN ARROWTO WN.

MR. PBITCHAEd's NEW WAREHOUSE. This buildiug is of a permanent anj most substantial nature, being built entirely of stone, with brick front, and is two-storey. The length is 55ft. by 31ft. in width. The ground floor i 8 devoted to the grocery and drapery business, and has been most handsomely fitted up for that purpose. At the extreme end of the store and facing the entrance doorway, is the staircase leading up to the first floor, which is reserved for show-rooms, &c. This floor has been furnished with door provided with a cathead beam for the pur pose of receiving goods from the street A well, with balustrade around it, has' been formed in the centre of the floor, with a patent lift for conveying goods from the floor below. Access is ob. tamed from the ground floor and landing of staircase into a large iron building at the back principally used for storage The new building has been designed fire-proof, and provision has beenmade.in all external openings for the introduction of Clark's patent revolving shutters. The fagade of the building on the ground floor is designed with plate glass front, in the centre of which is a handsome doorway with deeply recessed glass ingoes on each side. Angular pilasters finish the door, way and coupled ones both sides of the building all of which have moulded capital and bases. The first floor is divided from the ground floor by a moulded string course, and has a series ot moulded pilasters, with circularheaded windows between, finished with key-stones and moulded architraves The inside walls throughout are finished in plaster, the front outside being i n Portland cement. Altogether, this is a most handsome and commodious building, and is alike an ornament to the district, and a credit to the prise of Mr Pritchard. MR. PATEESON's SHOP. New stone premises have just been erected for Mr Wm. Paterson. They consist of large shop, 18ft. by 14ft one portion of which is used as a butchery the other as a bakery. Communicating with the latter is the hakehcuse, lsft° by 10ft., which, with the shop, i s we rj ventilated. To the left of the shop and facing the street, is the private ofhV a room 14ft. by Bft., withfireplace. The whole of the inside avails are postered, and those outside are intended to be finished in Portland cement. ME. AENDr's EESIDENCE. A residence is being erected opposite the store of Messrs Hallenstein and Co, tor Mr H. Arndt. The accommodation to be provided will be—Entrance ball to the ntrht of which is the dininroom, 14ft. long; on the left is the large bay window in the end ; bedroom 12tt. bv lift., and a smaller ditto, 9ft. by Bft. A continuous passage leads to the back, and communicates with the kitchen department, which is provided in a detached building, and contains kitchen, servants' rooms, &c. The design of the building externally (to the street) will be—A gable finished with moulded and enriched benge-boards, having turned final on the top In this gable will be a large bay window with moulded sill and cornice. A neat verandah runs along the remaining portion of the front, and will be constructed with coupled pillars, having moulded caps and bases, and facia finished with moulded cornice, &c. The whole of the walls throughout are to be of stone, and—together with the ceilings, which are lathed—are to be finished in plaster. I he contractors are Messrs Walker and Henderson, of Queenstown ; and the arclutectof this and the other buildings abovememioned is Mr F. W. Burwell.
