[ The usual monthly meeting was held t the offices of the Association on aturday, ißt inst,, at 7. p.m. Present -Messrs Lowis Harris (President) J. F. [ealeyj P.: Carrol, J. A. Miller, S. ymonds, W. M'Whirter, and W? aikenhead. "

Correspondence received as follows : -From his Honor Oswald Curtis, [ Vrintendent of Nelson, expressing its gratification on learning ■ that the iourse he took in reference to the qggested introduction of Chinese abor for the execution of public works fad met with the approval of the Associaion, and accepting with pleasure his inolnieht as an honorary member.—■ <Yom | the Colonial Secretary's office, Wellington, stating .that in compliance with the request of the Committee, the xVezo Zealand Gazettes, the Transitions of the General Assembly, 1871, the Education Bill, and the Gold Fields Act had been ; and that Mature New Zealand Gazettes and Parliamentary papers would be supplied.— [From miners at.theCarrickreefs,stating 'that the ten hours dispute had been arranged by an agreement to work nine hour shifts with a half holiday on Saturday, making 49J hours for the week's work; but calling the attention of. the Committee to the fact that at Bendigo Gully reefs the ten hour system still prevails.—From Mr Warden Beetham, to. the effect that the requirements of the Committee in reference to auriferous reserves in the neighborhood of Whitechapel, and other matters in connection with agricultural lease applications, would be forwarded for the consideration of the Government at an early date. ...
It .was resolved that the General Government be requested to alter the clause in the Gold Fields Act requiring "500 signatures to a petition for the. formation of a Mining Board, and to make: 250 signatures sufficient for the purpose; and also to provide that members elected on a Mining Board may receive payment for their ser-vices. Also to ask that a clause may be inserted in the Gold Fields Act under <vnich owners of water races may be entitled to compensation in cases where' two heads of \y.ater are taken fiom them and ordered to be ■returned natural channel for general use. •
It was arranged that the Annual Meeting of the Association should be held on the loth iust (to morrow evening).
