J HEREBY OWE NOTICE that I have this day applied to the Warden at Arrowtown fur a Lease of Lund for Agricultural purposes, situate in the Shotover Survey District, being Section io, Block VI, and Section 15, Block XVII, comprising 119 acres or thereabouts ; in accordance with tire Agricultural Lease Regulations made under the provisions of the Gold Fields Act. ENTLEMEN, —It is with no slight feelings of n gret that I have to inform you that I have placed the resignation of my seatfor the VVakatip District in the hands of the honorable Speaker of the House of Representatives. Political connections may not admit of the sentiment attached to those of a more social character; but, in one case, I feel that these have been peculiarly intimate aud pleasing, and that to me, your first representative in the Council of the Colony, a complete confidence has been a corded, which has given me a posito j in Parliament, neither unworthy of you nor detrimental to your interests. Having been first elected early in 18G5, and having thus had the honor of taking part in three successive Parliaments, I can regard with satisfaction the material pro gress of the Colony ; and am net dissatishave taken, year ii.fi as"not*"been without its weight in the direction of public afiairs; whilst the District itself | hears witness that the policy upon which I was originally chosen as your represiutitive—viz., the permanent settlement of the Goldfulds by liberal administration of the Waste Lands-—hasp;ovcd a complete success. The office to which T have been ap pointed by his P.xci Honeys Government will, I hope, afford me extended opportunities of useiulness to that interest with which I have so long been connected, and which, in or out of Parliament, I shall always do my best to advance. To you, gentlemen, I say for the present—politcally—Good Bye.
