Mount Pisa Water-race

At the monthly meeting of the Cromwell Borough Council, Mr Stewart Brown, acting-chairman of the Water Committee, said the Mount Pisa race was losing a tremendous amount of water. Mr Heaney, the race-caretaker, stated that the race was carrying as much water as there was in the creek, which amounted to about 34 heads, and said it was the lowest he had seen the supply during the 22 years he had been on the race.

Trailer Pump at Baths On Thursday, January 29, the Cromwell Volunteer Fire Brigade emptied the baths with trailer pumps. The water was used to irrigate the Camping Grounds, and the baths were cleaned down with the nozzle. A vote of thanks was passed to the Fire Brigade by the Cromwell Borough Council for their very helpful work.

Need of Weather Bureau Councillor A. Duthie, at the monthly council meeting held last Thursday night, asked the council if the establishment of a weather bureau in Cromwell, for the securing of weather reports would not be beneficial to the town. Many towns, Cr Duthie said, made an asset of their weather reports, such as by stating the number of hours’ sunshine they have had, their maximum temperatures, and rainfall. All this data is good advertising and people will always look for places that have the largest units of sunshine when they are considering taking their holidays. The Mayor, in reply, said that durthe war years, the meteorological department were very short of instruments and a bureau could not be established in Cromwell. Mr Duthie said that, although he was not prepared to undertake the position, if a bureau was established here, he would do his utmost to help anyone who undertook the position, as he (Duthie) had had a great deal of experience in meterological matters during the war.

Aii inspection of the roadway to Bannockburn (which up to the present time has not been in use), has been carried out and it is considered that this road could be put in order when graded.
