From the Files of the Lake Wakatip Mail October, 1866 More than three years ago Mr Eees turned out on one of the unfrequented islands of the lake a couple of rabbits. On landing on the island a few • days ago, to his agreeable surprise, he found his labour had not been spent in vain, and after securing his gun managed to kill seven. We learn that the Government will give the Queenstown Municipality £SOO, but certain conditions are annexed 'to the grant. These are to maintain, those portions of the streets within the borough boundary, which formed the main trunk. Mr Haughton’s arrival in Queenstown on Saturday last did not create a sensation. After having paraded the principal streets for some considerable time, and having spoken to some private individuals, and intimating that he would give an explanation of his conduct in the Assembly, he left before dark for Arrow, without having his invitation heeded. The necessary papers appointing the Mayor of Queenstown, a Justice of the Peace, have been received, and Mr Robertson was sworn in by Mr E. Bectham.
