ST. ANDREW’S CHOIR

Well-attended Recital A choral recital given by members of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church Choir, Queenstown in the Parish Flail last Thursday evening was well-attended Under the conductorship oi .Mr Donald Grant, the choir gave an excellent rendering of the Hymn Study “ Fvemng Hymn ” which was a feature of the evening. Other items by the choir included a well-balanced- selection of national, negro spiritual and folk songs. In these numbers a most creditable performance was given, strict attention being shown to precision and expression. The choral programme was interspersed with a variety of individual items given by members of the choir and friends. Other items were:—Vocal solos :Mesdanies J. Stone, G. Buxton and X. Christopher, Messrs W. Smith and J. G. Forbes: pianoforte solo, Mrs T. Davidson; voal duet, Misses G. Davies and J. Coekburn: vocal trio, Mrs H. Davies, Misses d. Coekburn and G. Davies. The accompanists were Miss J. Coekburn and Airs T. Davidson. Miss Joyce Coekburn also rendered excellent service as accompanist to the choir. At a supper party held in the Ambassadors tea-room Air Grant thanked the members of the choir for their good performances and the manner in which they had attended rehearsals. He appealed to those present to carry on with their good work not only as a church choir but also as a means of fostering choral music in the community. Air Grant stated that he greatly appreciated the effort made by all members especially that of Aliss Joyce Coekburn who, although in her teens, had served the choir with precise and sympathetic accompaniment. On behalf of the members Aliss F. AlcLean presented Aliss Cockburn with a shoulder spray. The Rev. R. Anderson congratulated the conductor, Air Grant upon the performance of the choir stating that against great difficulties Air Grant had banded them together and trained them to a high standard. Air Anderson also expressed his appreciation to the members of the choir and assisting artists.
