All or Nothing Is Vogue for Summer Sleeves

No “half measures” are to be taken with sleeves this summer. Keep this in mind when you start planning those fresh cottons, prints and linens to keep you cool and smart through the hot weeks ahead. With its latest edict that sleeves on summer frocks must be full length or no length, fashion has for once combined a challenge to woman’s ingenuity, inventiVeness and vanity with a reason eminently practical. Designers have reacted to the sight of arms tanned to the elbow but lily white above the same way as you do to the tide mark around the son and heif’s neck. So summer sleeves run down to the wrist to keep you pink and white like strawberries and cream. Or the other way round —arms bare to the shoulder for a smooth and even tan. Long Sleeves a La Mode If you are running up a new dress or blouse long sleeves will make it a la mode; but if you want to refurbish last year’s frock do it by taking out half-way sleeves and adding a little flange or other fal de lal at the shoulder. Fashion pointer for the tenderskinned who need sheilding from too ardent sunshine is a high ruffled neck and long ruffled sleeves —eighteenth century tone as far as the knee only. A white pique flange at the shoulder to take the place of the sleeve looks twice as crisp and twice as cool. Casual enough for the beach, with a hat and gloves it is formal enough for hot days in town. Add a little unobtrusive side drapery to a check cotton frock and do without sleeves altogether. For town wear add little short gloves and a big white hat. Whether your arms are your pride or secret regret you can expose or conceal them with perfect propriety—and be dressed up to the minute. As far as your legs are concerned that’s woman’s business, anyway. But when you bend your head to the rhythm of the sewing machine remember that in the words of the song, “It’s all or nothing at all,” as far as summer sleeves are concerned. ,
