Queenstown Town Clerk Resigns After 21 Years’ Service
After 21 years as town clei-k of the Queenstown Borough Council, Mr C. M. Inglis tendered his resignation at a meeting of the Queenstown Borough Council last Thursday night.
Mr Inglis, who asked to he relieved of the position by the end of September, is retiring.
Expressing regret at the resignation, the Mayor, Dr W. A. Anderson, said Mr Inglis had given long and faithful service as the council’s chief executive officer.
Cr A. 11. Wheatley paid a tribute to the wonderful service Mr Inglis had given, not only to the council, but also to the whole community. His advice and guidance, he said, and in particular his legal knowledge of municipal affairs, had been a great help.
Cr Hamilton stated that he had come into the council “green,” and Mr Inglis had always been most ready to help. He was sorry to loose the services of Mr Inglis.
Crs Sew Hoy, Thompson, and Lindsay endorsed the remarks of the previous speaker, and all expressed the hope that 'Mr Inglis would have good health in his retired life. Mr Inglis thanked the councillors for their kind remarks, and stated that he had come to Queenstown in 1925 with the idea of staying two years. The place had “ grown on him,” however, and he was still there. He had been with the council over 21 years, and had many happy recollections to look back
Mr Inglis was then asked to retire for a few minutes, and the council unanimously agreed to vote him three months’ retiring allowance on full pay. It was decided to call applications for the position of town clerk.
