RUGBY FOOTBALL

COUNTY BEATS ARROWTOWN County defeated Arrowtown by eight points to nil in a Rugby football match played at Arrowtown on Saturday, July 26. The ground was very soft and as the game progressed it became steadily worse making it very difficult to handle the ball. A number of passing rushes were seen, however, mostly by the Country backs, who were given more of the ball than Arrowtown. The score at half-time was 3-0. N Thompson having scored for Country. In the second half J. Allan for Country, went over the line and converted bringing the score up to eight;

The game was a terrific forward struggle between the two packs. Throughout the game, Arrowtown made many bids to cross the goal line and were unfortunate in not doing so. Lionel Oakes as half-back was outstanding for Arrowtown. Mr Haywood of Queenstown, was referee. ■
