♦ Perhaps the most successful of itrawberry growers during the )ast season has been Mr. Lawrence Matthewsjately of Kaitaia. rhree quarters of an acre was Wanted, and although a large luanty of fruit was lost owing to of pickers, some £760 in cash was taken from this small area, [n addition to this some £140 was baken from a quarter acre plot of tomatoes making a total of £900. No labour was emloyed except for the picking, and the land was ordinary gum land at Birkdale looked upon as practicaly useless a few years ago. It is believed that Mr .Matthews' achievement constitutes a worlds recod as far as strawberry growing is concerned. —Northland Age An editor is a man hired to investigate a nuspaper. The public are warned that forged £1 notes of the National Bank of New Zealand are still in circulation, and if they accept them they will still only have valueless paper on their hands. The notes are genuine except for the signature, which is forged. They are those which were stolen some months ago from a package of unsigned notes on their way out from England.
