Some Stray Verse.

TO THE EDITOIt. Sir,-—l've often thought of writing you a letter, But should say a little verse would be much better, For your readers may derive from it some pleasure If they read it when they have a little leisure. Your paper is a credit to our little town, And I read it every column up and down, For I always find some interesting local news, With some bright and pithy editorial views. Your reports are ably written and at times rather amusing, Which happens when the Board sits and members start accusing ; But though the argument gets hot and language impolite, In writing out your shorthand you tone it down just right. But it is time cur City Fathers gave themselves a shnke, And you might touch them up to make them more awake ; Although our town is growing at a very rapid pace, It seems to me oui Councillors are far behind the race, The water and drainage scheme has lonti been under w*vy, But won't be finished yet for many a lorg day ; Fur both Board and Engineer seem inclined to keep in line, And provido the service ut some distant future time. It seems to me the roads and streets badly want attention, Or the accidents that may ensue I hardly dare mention ; The motor cars and taxi cabs go tearing round abuut, If the drivers an; not careful there'll be someone couuted out. And while were talking about roads I want a little? light, As to why stray cattle take possession every blooming night ; |It is far beyond a nuisance, and some | one is to blamn, The way those animals go louud is just a crying shame.----1 When nights are dark its no mean foal these cattle 10 discern, You walk right on them aud with fright you vary quickly turn ; I now suggest the owners should be asked to play the game, Place on each animal a lamp and tag to show its name. Another nuisance is tre creek that runs near railway street, Which produces same foul odojrs when the waters are not deep, But what lo do with it I hardly seem to know Unless we build a wall across and stop its backward flow. But there are rich delights for all who look around, When they go up tho Garlield road aud yet the view profound j Our harbour and th<- country round present a pretty view, What makes it more entrancing is that, it seems always new. A v.isit out to Parakai much pleasure always brings, Providing that ymi have a dip when calling at the Springs ; And coming back you see tho town in LindscHpo bright and gay j You vow you'll 'never loavc' it until! your dviny day, I 11. \Y.
