Board of Agriculture.
The Board of Agriculture Bill was in Parliament last week end. It gives full details of the constitution of tho board aDd its powers.
The members of the board may be appointed by the Governor for three years and may be reappointed. Four of these members are to come from the A. and P. societies of the North Island and four from the South Island. The Govornor is to have the power to name the president and the vice-pre-sidents.
The board shall advise the Minister for Agriculture on questions affecting: —(a)_The aiding, improving, and developing of agriculture and all rural industries, including: fruit culture, horticulture, forestry, dairying, the breeding of stock and poultry, beekeeping, and the flax industry} (b) the prevention and control of disease in stock and poultry, the control of rabbits and noxious weeds, the dipping oi sheep ; (c) the establishment of agricultural colleges and agricultural education generally ; and (d) the aiding or facilitating of the carriage and distribution of produce. The board is to hold meetings at such times and places as it thinks fit, and in particular shall hold a meet* ing within one month after the appointment of its members in each term of three years. The Public Service Commissioner may appoint a secretary of the board, who may hold that office in conjunction with any other office which the Commissioner deems ! not incompatible therewith.
