A NEW TRACTION ENGINE.
Messrs Plaisted and Co. have imported a new kind of traction engine, fom the works of Messrs Wallis and S'eevenn, .of the North Hants Iron Works.; Ii is an eight-horse power, and the peculiarity about it is that it is fitted with springs, so that when the engine is travelling over rough roads ihn jar is prevented, and thus the wear and tear on the working parts is avoided. The springs can be easily applied by the man driving the engine, as the screws acting upon them are placed close to bis hand. All that has to be done on coming to a piece of rough road is to scow down the screws, and the springs at. once come into work. The plates and tubes of the engine are extra strong, and the lender is more roomy than that of oilier engines. The engine was tried the other day, and gave every satisfaction, the vibration being very small even when running on the roughest ronl. The extra cost of springs is bnt small, not exceeding £2O, whilst the saving of wear and tear is considerable.
