[REUTERS TELEGRAMS.] By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. APPROVAL of THE VICTORIAN BUDGET. THE FRENCH AND THE NEW HEBRIDES. RUPTURE IN THE NEW SOUTH WALES CABINET. (Received August 18, 1.55 p.m.) Melbourne, August 18. In the Legislative Assembly last night, the formal resolution approving of the Budget was voted. During the sitting, Mr Gillies, the Premier, made a statement to the effect that the Victorian Government deemed it unnecessary to ask the other colonies to renew the protest regarding the occupation of the New Hebrides by France. The only satisfactory solution would he fixing a date for the withdrawal of the French troops from the colonies. He added that they were agreed regarding the question of the influx of criminals and the prevention of contamination therefrom. August 29. Arrived, Te A nan, from New Zea. land. Mr Dibbs has resigned his position in the Cabinet as Colonial Secretary, owing to a difference of opinion from colleagues in reference to the proposed establishment of a Statistical department.
