At the inquest on the body of John Kennedy, who died suddenly, medical evidence showed that death resulted from a sudden failure of the heart’s action, and the verdict was given accordingly, Kennedy was a traveller for Bing, Harris and Co., and a married man without a family. Captain Rose, manager of the New Zealand Shipping Company, met with a slight accident to-day by losing his grasp while ascending from the hold of the Tongariro. The Agent-General cables that the New Zealand Loan of one million and a half fetched an average price of £IOO 6s 3d the amount tendered for at and above par was £5,555,000. The Government have received a message from the Agent-General stating that some 700 tenders have been received for the loan, applying for about £7,000,000. Tenders at £IOO 3s 6d will receive 32 per cent. : above that, in full. It is understood that Mr Pearson member for Ashley, will move, and Mr Hislop, member for Oamaru, will second the Address-in-Reply in the Lower House, and the Hon. Robert Pharazyn and Hon. J. An old man named Robinson was run over by a horse and buggy, near Rangiora, on Saturday night, and died shortly after. The same evening Miss Wright, daughter of Mr Robert Wright, was thrown from a buggy on the road from Otaki to Kaiapoi, and died in a few hours. Later. At the inquest on tho body of Edmond Robinson, an old man of 70, who was knocked down by a buggy near Rangiora, on Saturday, the evidence showed that W. Chinnery, F. Chinnery, and George Buckman, three young men who were driving in the bnggy. placed the old man, who was insensible, on the side of the road where a horseman could have ridden over him, and then went on two miles to Rangiora to inform the police. They took the horse out of the buggy, and one of them went to get his hair cut before taking any steps to get relief taken to the sufferer. The night was very dark and windy and considerable time elapsed before they returned to the spot with a constable and drove the sufferer to a doctor. The medical evidence showed that deceased died from long-standing congestion of the lungs, and brought to a climax by the shock of the accident. The three young men were severely censured by the Coroner and the jury for the inhuman conduct in leaviug the old man as they had done.
