A meeting of the Hospital Committee was held at the Secretary's rooms last evening, when it was resolved that the names of all subscribers and ticket-holders in connection with the Hospital should be published for general information. It was also unanimously agreed to give an entertainment in aid of the funds of the institution on the last Friday in June. After passing some accounts for payment, the meeting adjourned for a fortnight Saturday next being the anniversary of the Queen's Birthday, no mails will be made up or sorted at the Kumara Postoffice. Mails for despatch oil that day will close at 7 p. m. on Friday. Applications are invited from persons for the appointment of cave-taker to the Kumara State School. Full particulars of the duties can bo obtained on application to the Secretary of the Local School Committee. An adjourned meeting" of .the Price Testimonial Fund Committee will be held at M'lntosh's Store, Dillman's Town, this evening. The Hospital Gommitte decided, and very judiciously, last evening to make public the names of all parties either subsribers or ticket-holders in connection with that institution. This course is one the adoption of which has been obviously needed for some time past, as, to their shame be it said, there are a large number of the residents of this district who are ever foremost in tendering their advice as to the management of the Hospital and who at the same time are the very last to contribute the least pecuniary aid towards the maintainance of that institution. On the same principle, many who neglect when in the enjoyment of good health to obtain an admission ticket are only too glad to avail themselves of treatment in the Hospital when overtaken by sickness or accident. As the Committee do not propose to publish the list for another week we trust many will avail themselves of the opportunity to place their names thereon. All persons having claims against the estate of the late Miss M. Reilly, of Westbrooke, are requested to forward their accounts to 8,. Nancarrow, Esq., of Greymouth, or to the Public Trustee, Wellington ; and all persons indebted to the estate are also requested to pay the amounts due to either of the aforesaid persons. Tenders ar-j invited by advertisement in another column for the formation of three miles of the Hokitika-Greymouth
railway. Plans and specifications can be seen at the Public Work offices, Hokitika and Greymouth.
In consequence of "some representations recently made to him, the Acting Chief Secretary of Victoria has taken steps to prevent the giving of lectures and entertainments at the theatres and other halls in Melbourne on Sundays for purposes of direct profit. In future no charges can be made at the doors. Collections can be made, however, in the same Way as they are made in the churches. A written permission has been obtained from the Chief Secretary to give lectures in the Opera House on Sunday evenings, this only being granted on the understanding that no money was to be taken at the doors.
