Kawhia Town Board.
At the ordinary meeting of the Kawhia Town Board held last Wednesday evening Mr A. E. Bangley (chairman) presided. Kawhia-Oparau Road. The Acting • Postmaster General thanked the Board for the information contained in a request that he use hij infltifinflA with tha Ministar nf
bis iniiuence with the Minister ot Public Works to urge the formation of the road between Oparau and Kawhia with the object of the mail coach coming direct to Kawhia. He s ated that the present launch contract extended for one year only, and he would confer with the Minister on the matter. Replying to the Board’s representations regarding the same road the Minister of Public Works pointed out that road formation would be premature until the two bridges now in course ot construction were completed. However, provision would be made <n next year's Estimates for the road. I. was decided to reply to both communications trusting that the completion of the road formation would synchronise with that of the bridges. Water Supply. The secretary of the Waikato Hospital Board forwarded an estimate of the approximate cost of boring for a water supply sufficient for the requirements of the Cottage hospital. The cost of a larger size of the bore to meet the needs of the town would increase on a high scale and he wished to ascertain the views of the Board as to sharing the risk of the work.
The chairman pointed out that the Board had to consider not only the cost of the boring, plant and reservoir, but also the expense of distribution, and it was decided to obtain further information on the matter. Latrine, It was reported that the engineer's estimate of the cost of a latrine on the wharf was £7O of which the Town Board will be expected to bear a share and it was resolved to await further inquiries as to the possibility of a more modified proposal. Drains. The police department is to te asked to clear the drain on its property and Mr Braine to be notified that the obstructing silt in the outfall drain from his swamp is damaging adjacent sections. Reclamation. The chairman was deputed to confer with the Bank regarding an arrangement to complete the filling in Pouwewe Street tj prevent the lodgment of storm water.
