AMATEUR CYCLING CLUB
SPEAKE CUP RACE. Excellent weather conditions favoured the eleven competitors who participated in Saturday’s road event. The race was held over a 14-mile course for the Speake Cup. L. Hall and D. Stewart, off 3 minutes, overhauled the limit riders about three miles out and came away well to stage a very close finish, the timekeepers declaring the race a dead heat. L. Hall and D. Stewart rode a well judged race and deserved a lot of credit for their hard ride. With a little more training, these boys will find themselves further back on the mark. The scratch man, G. Irvine, had a hard ride by himself and put up a really good time considering the heavy wind he faced on the return trip to town. Irvine again gained fastest time. The race resulted:— L. Hall, 3 min., and D. Stewart, 3 min, dead heat 1 J. Ngahiwi, 6 min 3 G. Irvine, scr., fastest time, 38m. 305.; L. Lee, second fastest time, 39m. 255.
