LOWER OUTPUT
TE AWAMUTU DAIRY CO. DAIRYING SET-BACK. In common with, other dairy companies in the Waikato, a decreased output was experienced by the Te Awamutu Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd., during last season. The annual report to be presented at the annual general .meeting at Te Awamutu on August 15 states that 2270 tons of butter were made during the year, a decrease of 11.95 per cent, on the company’s output of 2578 tons for the previous season. The Dominion decrease in butter production for the year was 13.32 per cent. The company’s “all-in” cost to f.o.b. for the year is 2.015 d per lb butterfat, compared with 1.899 d for the prevous year. Per ton of butter, the cost to f.o.b. this year is £ls 7s 7d, compared with £l4 3s 8d for the previous year. The increase is admittedly small—slightly in excess of one-tenth of a penny per lb butterfat—but factory costs have been a minor factor in the increases which have fallen on the dairy farmer during the past few years. “The company’s average advance payment over all grades for the> past season was 14.355 d per lb butterfat,” states the report. The directors disapprove of the policy adopted by some companies in publishing their pay-outs “for finest quality ceram, including cost of cream cartage,” as this does not represent the true payout of a dairy company. On that basis, the company’s pay-out for the season is lG.Glld per lb butterfat; but our average payment over all grades, not including cream cartage, is 16.077 d per lb butterfat.
