DROP IN PRODUCTION
BIG COMPANY’S FIGURES. PERCENTAGE DECREASE OF 7.96 A decrease in production amounting to 7.96 per cent, was experienced by the New Zealand Co-operative Company, Ltd., during the dairying season just ended. During the season the company’s total output was 65,988 tons, compared with an output of 71,697 tons last season. The output refers to butter, cheese, casein, condensed milk and milk powders. In a statement on Saturday Mr. C. J. Parlane, general manager of the company, said it was essential that the farm labour problem should be given immediate attention and he thought that if suitable accommodation were provided on farms to permit of the employment of married men it would be of material assistance. The quantities of produce manufactured in comparison with the previous season were as follows:
At the company’s sixteen butter factories, concluded Mr. Parlane, the output ranged from 1239 tons at Waimauku to 4734 tons at Te Awamutu, whilst at the eighteen cheese factories the output ranged from 271 tons at Rukuhia to 1431 toils at Matang'i.
