WAITOMO POWER BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Waitomo Electric Power Board was held on Monday, the chairman, Mr. J. Boddie, presiding over Messrs. W. A. Lee, V. W. Simms, W. S. Cato> E. T. Gorton, W. Bluck, the secretary, Mr. Seeker, and the engineer, Mr. Davidson.

A letter was received from the Treasury forwarding an Order-in-Council authorising the raising of the first instalment of £SOOO of the Reticulation Loan of £25,000. A communication was also received from the State Advances Corporation forwarding the debentures for signing and sealing. It was reported that this matter had been attended to. A tender was received for the construction of a car-wash for the cleaning of the Board's cars and -trucks, but the members considered the tender too high, and it was resolved to leave the matter over in the meantime.

The 1938 balance sheet was returned from the Auditor-General, certified correct.

Mr. Seeker reported that there had been a most satisfactory attendance at the cooking demonstrations, both in Te Kuiti and Otorohanga. Some discussion then took place regarding the advisability of holding a further demonstration next month but it was decided to leave the question until after Christmas. The estimated income and expenditure for the half year ending the 30th September, 1938, together with corresponding figures for the same period last year was tabled and members of the Board expressed satisfaction at the state of the finances, especially with regard to the Trading Department. Purchases of electricity amounted to £5139 for the half year compared with £4516 last year, while sales totalled £12,873 compared with £11,228 last year.

Engineer's Report.

The engineer, Mr. Davidson, reported that overhaul and reconstruction work to provide for growth of load had been carried out in the Te Kuiti Borough. The second line gang has been engaged on new service lines and extra phases for ranges in the Otorohanga district. A commencement with the Troopers' Road line will be made this week. The house wiring contract at Troopers' Road is nearly completed. Reinspection work is in progress now that there is a complete staff again.
