Mr. G. Gordon, formerly of the Otorohanga Times' staff, joined the staff of the Franklin Times this week.

Mr. and Mrs. J. Sangster have returned from a few days spent in Auckland.

Mr. A. Anderson, who has been spending a few days in Te Kuiti as the guest of Mr. D. E. Pankhurst, has left for his home in Wellington.

Mr. N. Blenkin, of Auckland, is spending a few days in Te Kuiti as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Douglas.

Miss M. Nealon has returned from her holidays, which she spent in Otorohanga.

A most enjoyable 21st birthday party was tendered by Mrs. J. Blackman to Mrs. W. Stringer on Saturday evening. The function, which was held in Mrs. Blackman's home in Awakino Road, was largely attended, dancing being the order of the evening. A beautiful supper was provided by Mrs. Blackman, after which the large birthday cake was cut.

Some fine bags of trout were secured by Mr. W. S. Cato, Junr., during a fishing holiday at Taupo last week.

A picture evening was tendered last night to honour Miss L. Dean, of Te ~Kumi, and Mr. H. Fulcher, of Te Mapara, in view of their approaching marriage. The large party who attended the State Theatre afterwards adjourned to Mrs. R. M. Somerville's home, where a beautiful supper was enjoyed. Afterwards it fell to the lot of the guests of the evening to open the many parcels containing useful gifts, Mr. Fulcher expressing thanks on behalf of himself and Miss Dean.

Messrs. J. C. Evans, of Te Kuiti, and J. Bradley, of Taumarunui, are amongst the Rugby referees who, in the recent examinations, secured over 80 per cent, and have thus become entitled to the New Zealand Rugby Referees' Association's certificate. Mr. Evans gained 81.5 per. cent, and Mr. Bradley 85.5 "per cent. In the examination other Maniapoto referees were awarded the following marks: Mr. J. H. Pedersen 69 per cent. Mr. F. E. Wilson 67 per cent., Mr. H. O. Thorburn 45 per cent., and Mr. W. T. Searancke 37.25 per cent.

A most enjoyable house-warming was extended to Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Tolley on Saturday evening last. Amongst those present were Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Crawford, Mr. and Mrs. S. F. Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. Ansford, Mr. and Mrs. Thornton, Mr. and Mrs. Gamble, Mr. and Mrs. Banfield, Misses Banfield, Hart, Johnson, Nealon, Ferris, and Messrs. I. D. Howell, C. Banfield, R. Gibbs, D. Barton, Pedersen, O'Connell, Cameron and Johansson. Mr. C. Banfield and his harmonica troupe rendered numerous hits which were much appreciated by all. Thanks are also due to Mr. Sam Wilson for arranging the evening.
