OBJECTION RECEIVED
RAILWAY TRUCKING YARDS. REMOVAL TO WAITETE. An objection to the shifting of the railway trucking yards to a situation opposite the row of houses in Waitete Road, was received at the Borough Council meeting from the residents in this area on Monday, through Mr. P. O'Rourke. In his letter he pointed out that such action would increase rather than diminish the danger to pedestrians, and smells and noise would cause an intolerable nuisance.
The Council, though lacking definite information, understood that the entrance to the trucking yards would be opposite the Rugby Park entrance, the cattle yards lying on the south side and the sheep yards to the north. Cr. Johnson suggested that the difficulty might be overcome by a transfer of the Borough pound for portion of the railway land lying nearer the town. It was left to the Town Clerk to make inquiries as to the position, and any suggestions that might be helpful to the Department. All agreed that the shifting of the yards from the centre of the town was essential.
