LOSSES MADE

COMMERCIAL BROADCASTING. MR. BROADFOOT'S QUERY. The opinion that the Government should answer the specific question, whether any or all of the commercial broadcasting stations were making substantial losses, was expressed by Mr. W. J. Broadfoot, M.P. for Waitomo, when speaking in the House of Representatives. The Prime Minister had stated that a complete report on the financial operation of the service would be available when the annual report of the service was laid before the House, but surely the Minister in charge knew whether the department was making a loss or a profit. Had the estimated revenue been correct, or had the Government been misled by over-optimistic advisers; and if so, how long had it taken the Government to find it out?
