EDUCATION AREAS

TARANAKI PARTY’S TRIP. VISIT TO TE KUITI. The boundaries of the Taranaki and South Auckland education districts as they will be fixed under the new Education Act were on Thursday discussed by a party comprising members of the Taranaki Education Board and Mr. S. C. Smith, M.P.. which is meeting School Committees at Aria, Pio Pio and Te Kuiti.

Mr. Smith is a member of the special recess committee set up by the Government to consider the new Education Bill. It is stated that there have been complaints from the Te Kuiti district at inclusion in the Taranaki Education Board’s area and a preference has been expressed for inclusion in the South Auckland area. The reason for this is that the School Comrqittees concerned feel that they would be better served with headquarters at Hamilton than at New Plymouth. Their fear was that being so far from New Plymouth their wants might be inclined to remain overlooked.

The meetings were to thrash out both sides of the case and to give the local School Committees the assurance that the Taranaki Education Board will watch their interests as well as those of any oth(?r school in the Board’s district.

The Education Board party cornpried Messrs. J. A. Valentine (chairman), W. k Jones, T. J. Griffin, F. A. Lee, W W. Thomson, J. McAllister, H. W. Insull (secretary) and D. McKay (agricultural inspector).
