“We have got to put a stop to this sort of thing, for it is happening every day,” said,.Mr. D. Pennington at the monthly meeting of the North Taranaki provincial executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union at New Plymouth on Friday in commenting on what he termed . the “deplorable condition” of railway .trucks used for transporting cattle. Mr. Pennington stated that a herd of cattle had recently been sold for £l4 a head, guaranteed sound, in,,a North Tafanaki town. They’were to be railed to the Waikato and the trucks were, ordered a week ahead. When the cattle were about ito, ’be. '.railed it was found that the floors of the trucks were covered in filth eight inches deep.
