WORLD DIAMOND DISPLAY
£3,000,000 WORTH OF GEMS ON VIEW. King Leopold of the Belgians recently opened the diamond exhibition. in the two large halls of the Salle des Fetes at Amsterdam. Some of the most wonderful diamonds in existence were on view, representing a value of nearly £3,000,000. One exhibit was a portrait of the King surmounted by a crown of diamonds made up of 1500 stones. The frame was also covered with diamonds.
There was one big stone of more than 60 carats of the purest bluewhite. There were pink diamonds and a so-called mi-regent of 69 carats, also a rarity. A special section contained his* torical watches set with diamonds, miniatures, antique brooches, chains and bracelets. Several old Antwerp families lent family heirlooms. The Diamond Corporation of London sent a remarkable collection of rough stones. Visitors saw cutters and polishers at work and some of the stones finished at the exhibition were prizes in a lottery.
