PIO PIO

RETURNED SOLDIERS’ PICNIC. The Pio Pio R.S.A. held their annual picnic in the Pio Pio Domain on the 21st February under ideal conditions. A very large attendance testified to the popularity of the day. Good river bathing pool attracted the younger folk for the greater part of the morning. Lunch was served in the willow trees’ shade. In the afternoon sports were organised. The results of the competitions were as follows: — Boys, over 14: William Early 1, J. Bevege 2, G. Robertson and R. Morris, equal, 3; 12 to 14: A. McLean 1, A. Larsen 2, K. Donne 3; 10 to 12: R. Bevege 1, D. Ingpen 2, Norman McLean 3; 8 to 10: E. McLaughlan 1, B. Bevege 2, L. Crocombe 3; 6 to 8: W. Hunt 1, O. Larsen 2, C. Bevege 3; under 6: C. Morris, T;- Cocking, H. Paine tied. Young Ladies' Race: M. Heale 1, B. Heale 2. Girls, 12 to 14: J. Tod 1, J. Cook 2, B. Ronaldson 3; 10 to 12: M. Cook 1, N. Cook 2, M. Ward 3; 8 to 10: B. Cock 1, M. Ronaldson 2, S. Winchcombe 3; under 6: M. McLaughlan 1. Married Women’s Race: Mrs. Nelson 1, Mrs. McLean 2, Mrs. Cocking 3. Ladies’ Throwing the Cricket Ball: Mrs. Tod 1. Thread the Needle: G. Davey 1, G. Crocombe 2, H. Paine 3. Men Throwing the Cricket Ball: W. Early 1. Returned Soldiers’ Race: L. Ingpen 1, C. Bevege 2, A. Tod 3. After afternoon tea the president of the branch, Mr. A. H. Morris, in a short speech congratulated the winners in the above events, trusted that all present had thoroughly enjoyed the day, and that the enthusiasm of everybody augured well for the continuance of the picnic in future years.
