TE KUITI STOCK SALE
ALMOST TOTAL CLEARANCE. Messrs. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., Te Kuiti, report having held their usual sale at Te Kuiti yesterday, when sheep were penned much in excess of advertised numbers. The entry consisted for the main part of lines of ewes and fat and store lambs, with a small penning of wethers. There was a good attendance of buyers and a very good sale with almost a total clearance resulted. Lambs were firm for fats and forward conditioned sorts, while well grown stores and ewe lambs sold at late rates. Backward sorts and culls were easier in value. Ewes were in keen demand and while we did not pen any first-class lines, any lines suitable for breeding sold under keen competition at advanced rates. Wethers sold at late ruling rates.
Quotations: Medium fat lambs 23s sd, light and plain sorts 20s to 21s; fair ewe lambs 23s 6d to 24s 3d, medium ewe lambs 19s to 20s, medium sorts 15s 9d to 17s 6d, m.s. lambs, fair quality, 17s lOd to 18s 6d; medium 15s 6d to 16s 6d; small 11s to 14s; culls 8s to 9s; good Down cross lamb,s 17s lid to 20s; medium Down lambs 14s 8d to 16s; medium Romney wether lambs 16s lid to 18s; store wethers 22s 6d to 23s 6d; m.a. ewes 20s; 5 and 6-year ewes 25s to 27s 2d; 6 and 7-year ewes 18s 6d to 22s Id; failing ewes made 14s to 17s, according to condition; thin s.m. ewes 15s to 16s; culls 8s to 12s; 2-tooth Romney rams sold at 11 guineas. It was a very sound sale and showed clearly that there is still a strong demand for good class ewes, while lambs remain as popular as ever. Aged ewes were greatly helped by the rates ruling for fats.
Messrs. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report having held their usual sale at Te Kuiti on the 19th inst., when a large yarding of sheep came before a bench of local buyers. Prices for both lambs and ewes were a trifle easier than at previous sales but a good steady tone was maintained throughout the day.
