Particulars at Chronicle Office, or Eox 91, Hamilton. 980 The bunyip, Australia’s prototype of the Loch Ness Monster, is apparently treated seriously by some Australians. Mr. W. Lowe, a New South Wales member of the party of visiting Australian farmers at present in New Zealand, commented that he had met fishermen at Lake Cowall who said they had just seen this remarkable animal. Although its origin appears to be in blackfellow mythology, the bunyip is now known to be an aboriginal animal, possibly of prehistoric ancestry, of most peculiar shape. It delights in making a tremendous splashing in the water and also emits an extraordinary noise. Apart from these facts, however, details as to its diet and habits are comfortingly vague.
