Mrs. McCardle, of Raglan, is the guest of Mrs. N. B. Lusk.

Mr. Hayden George, who recently completed his 8.A., and also has secured his Training College Entrance, is to enter the Auckland Training College when it re-opens.

Miss C. Osmond, of Otorohanga, was appointed by the Waitomo Power Board yesterday to the charge of the Otorohanga office. She will succeed Mr. G. W. Garvey, who has taken up a position at Tauranga.

The presentation of a set of cutglass goblets from the members of the Board, and of a silver entree dish from the staff, was made to Mr. W. S. Cato yesterday, at the Waitomo Power Board meeting, in view of his approaching marriage.

M. M. Ormsby, of To Kuiti, won the junior mile, and came second in the junior half-mile, at the amateur athletic and cycling sports at Thames on Saturday. W. Cairns, formerly of Mangapehi and now of Frankton, broke the javelin throw record with 152 ft 8 inches. Ormsby’s time for the mile was 4m. 58 1-5 secs.

All the eight candidates from the Te Kuiti School who sat for the marticulation examination in November passed, and last evening the School Committee passed a motion congratulating the teachers of the High School on . this excellent result. The chairman said that, when it was added that the previous year 10 out of 11 candidates passed, and the one who failed missed by only two marks, the record at the local High School must be equal to anything in New Zealand.
