GENERAL.
Book Ends We Have Spotted: The vogue for spots has even invaded our furnishing accessories, and decorative hook-ends give a colourful and modern air, besides serving their practical purpose. They can be bought very cheaply and decorated at home. A pair of whitewood book - ends cost about 2s. You will also need a tin of lacquer, some size, and some coloured drawing-pins. Dissolve the size in hot water, allow to cool, and paint over the whitewood bookends with it. When dry, lacquer each side of the wood—one coat should be enough—and leave it for a day to dry. Now decorate with the drawing-pins to give the spotted effect. Arrange these in a scattered formation, in no particular pattern, but about equal distances apart. A tiny hole made with a small bradawl where each, pin is to go, will help them to go in easily. A pair of book-ends recently given to me were lacquered jade green with white spots, but your choice.of colour schemes will, of course, depend upon the decoration of your rooms.
