MUNICIPAL BAND

OPEN-AIR CONCERT LAST NIGHT. Many complimentary comments on the playing of the Te Kuiti Municipal Band were made last evening, when the Band rendered a number, jof items under temporary lights nei£ "the" town clock. .' jf ■ The conductor was Mr. Close, the bandmaster of Te Awamutu Band. Since December Mr. Close has been coming to Te Kuiti weekly to take the Band practices, and the result was seen last evening, when, for a Friday night, there was a good muster of players and many favourable comments were passed on their playing. That Mr. Close is a very capable bandsmaster is evidenced by the success of the Te Awamutu Band in the B grade competitions recently held in Whangarei. When coming through -to practices he usually brings three or four members of the Te Awamutu Band with him, and this action has also greatly helped the local players.
