DEVELOPMENT OF MOVEMENT According to information collected by the International Labour Office, Geneva, there are throughout the world over 63,000 consumers' cooperative societies with 90,000,000 members, over 62,000 housing coance societies exceeds 6,000,000,000 members, and nearly 488,000 agriculture co-operative societies with 44,000,000 members. For the 1934 period, begun in 1934 and terminated in 193 5 the total trade of the consumers' cooperative societies amounts to nearly 63,000,000,000 Swiss francs, and that of the agricultural co-operative societies to over 7,000,000,000, while the amount of capital insured against fire, stock diseases and other risks by the agricultural mutual insurance societies exceeds 6,000,00,000 Swiss francs, and the turnover of the rural and urban co-operative credit societies exceeds 109,000,000,000 francs. These figures are found in the new edition of the "International Directory of Co-operative Organisations," published by the 1.L.0., and which contains interesting statistics of the co-operative movement during the depression. Particulars are given of 728 central co-operative organisations in 57 countries'.
