MILITARY BALL

ABOUT 400 DANCERS ATTEND. GAY ANNUAL FUNCTION. The Military Ball held last evening at the Ritz Cabaret, was the most largely attended dance held in Te Kuiti this winter, approximately 400 beingpresent. The night was a gay one that all appeared to enjoy to the full. The floor was in perfect order, and though the large attendance caused it to be somewhat crowded, this appeared merely to add to the “swing” of the dance. Pat O’Rourke’s orchestra dispensed fine music. A large proportion of the old-time dances on the programme were very popular, though the lancers and sucklike are performed by the younger generation with more energy than skill. A tasteful sit-down supper was provided, and despite the fact that there were three sittings, the organisation enabled it to be disposed of in reasonable time. The dance was organised by the officers and men of the Te Kuiti platoon, D Support Company, Ist Waikato Regiment, who, as did many visiting Volunteers, attended in uniform.
