EX-GERMAN COLONIES
SOUTH AFRICAN POLICY.
NO POSSIBLE RETURN,
(Press Association. —Copyright.) (Received 12.45 p.m.) Johannesburg, August 12. Mr. Pirow, Minister of Defence for South Africa, has modified his statement of July 14. He declares that under no circumstances can South Africa and Britain envisage the return of Tanganyika or South West Africa to Germany, and other means must be found of satisfying Germany’s colonial aspirations.
The Cape Argus stated on July 14; “As Mr. Pirow rules out Tanganyika and South West Africa for return to Germany, nothing is left except the Cameroons, with which Germany will not be satisfied. She would accept them grudgingly and demand more and set about getting more. Is a baby’s rattle likely to satisfy a mailed fist?” the paper asks.
