HERD TESTING

HIGHER FEES TO BE CHARGED. Higher testing fees for the 1936-37 season are announced in the annual report of the directors of- the New Zealand Co-operative Herd-testing Association. As was explained at the annual group meeting, the association is faced with the payment of higher wages to the staff during the ensuing season, and, as wages and salaries account for 70 per cent, of the cost of testing, an increase in testing charges is stated to be in-' evitable. The scale of charges for the 193637 season based on 12 consecutive monthly tests will be as follows: (a) Herds consisting of 36 cows and over, herd fee, £4 Bs, plus 3s per cow; (b) herds consisting of less than 36 cows, herd fee, £2 12s, plus 4s per cow, with a minimum charge of £6 12s. With a view to encouraging the marking of all eligible heifer calves for (registration purposes, it has been decided that no charge wil be made to testing members in respect of this service.
