R.S.A.

NEW EXECUTIVE MEETS. The change-over from the retiringexecutive to the newly-appointed one took place at the Association’s rooms on Thursday evening, 7th inst. The retiring president, Mr. W. Rundle, after having dealt with matters that had come forward since the previous meeting of the executive, handed over the meeting to Mr. A. C. Shearer, president for the ensuingyear. In a neat speech Mr. Rundle said he had enjoyed a very happy term of office. He thanked the members of the past year’s executive for the solid support they had given him, and said he was sure Mr. Shearer would receive every support from the members of his executive. The members present were:— Messrs. A. C. Shearer (president), F. E. 11. Ongley (vice-president), A. Morris (Pio Pio), H. Higgins, G. Miller, A. Flux, P. 11. Hughes, and J. Thornton (secretary). Accounts passed for payment totalled the sum of £8 18s lOd. An invitation from the Aria subbranch to the secretary and president to attend its re-union on Saturday, 9th inst., was accepted. The Dominion secretary advised that the Te Kuiti R.S.A. was 16th on the Dominion membership ladder, with 359 members as at the 31st March. An application was received from a member asking for assistance, and the secretary was instructed to make further inquiries. It was decided that the Association use Anzac commemoration stamps on all correspondence. Mr. J. Thornton was elected secretary unopposed. Owing to the numerous applications received in connection with pensions it was decided that Messrs. J. Thornton and T. M. Hetet be appointed as pensions’ officers. The sick visitors for the ensuing 12 months are Messrs. 11. Higgins and J. J. Davison. Mr. F. E. H. Ongley was appointed correspondent. A circular from headquarters was received advising that the Dominion Conference would be held in Wellington in May. The question of a delegate being sent from Te Kuiti was keenly debated, and it was decided that a delegate would not attend the Conference this year. The Rev. E. W. Hancock was appointed honorary chaplain to the Association. The secretary was instructed to convey the thanks of the executive to the Presbyterian Ladies’ Guild for the beautiful flowers that were handed over to the Association after the Guild’s Flower Show. The flowers were used for posies which were placed on the graves of returned soldiers in the Te Kuiti cemetery. Mr. N. Cole kindly donated crosses for graves which have not these. In the near future a party will carry out a scheme of work to improve the condition of the graves.
