LEVY ON WOOL

LEGISLATION THIS SESSION. The levy of 6d a bale on all wool sold in New Zealand, or exported from the 'Dominion, which is provided in the Wool Industry Protection and Research Bill, to be introduced during the present session of Parliament by the Minister of Agriculture, Hon. W. Lee Martin, seems to be considered satisfactory by wool growers fairly generally. The general opinion of several sheep farmers, in conversation during the past few days, is that the charge of 6d a bale is* quite reasonable. A similar view has been reported from several other parts of the Dominion. The creation of a fund which would enable the authorities to combat propaganda against the use of wool, and to prosecute wool research work in New Zealand, is a commendable move and in the interests of the industry it is to be hoped that the necessary legislation will be passed.
