MATIERE EWE FAIR. Messrs. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report having held their annual ©we fair at the Matiere saleyards on Friday, 14th February, when 10,412 breeding ewes were offered to a large attendance of buyers. The condition and quality was probably the best yarding offered at this centre. Buyers were present from the Waikato, Auckland, Te Awamutu, Te Kuiti, Raetihi and Taumarunui districts. Practically a complete clearance was made under the hammer and the majority of the ewes went to the Waikato, also a large consignment to the Pio Pio district. Bidding was by no means free at any stage of the sale. However, good, quality ewes changed hands at prices equal to present rates. Older ewes on the other hand were easier and hard of sale. In the 2-tooth section top price was realised for a line sold on account of W. B. Andrew Estate and made 36s 6d. The top price of the sale was obtained for a very nice line of 1150 maiden 4-tooth ewes sold on account of M. B. Fullerton-Smith which realised 37s 6d. The 4-year-old section was again topped by Mr. K. McLean whose line realised 30s Id.
