While Rome messages continue to emphasise the importance of Marshal Badoglio’s northern victory and a member of Signor Mussolini’s general staff declared that this is indeed the beginning of the end in Abyssinia, a calmer view is taken in Addis Ababa, where it is asserted that the Italian advance is merely a necessary move to save the beleagured Makalle garrison.
